Creating stylish visual supports for your student or child

The last thing we all need is wasted time searching the internet for the perfect image to put on a visual support for a student or child. Here are some subscription free sources for images you might include in your visual supports for kiddo who needs it. Note: Not all kids want or need images as part of their checklists, particularly teenagers.

Subscription free

Here are my favorite free resources:

  1. Open Symbols: A searchable database of thousands of images for every scenario. They’re part of the OpenAAC Initiative.

  2. Microsoft Word: Word has thousands of icons built right in for nearly every scenario as well. Their icons are simple, which has its own set of pros and cons.

  3. Icons8.com: Their licensing is a bit trickier for professionals outside the education bubble, but there are plenty of pros to give this site a look over. One of these benefits is the stylings to choose from.

Free downloadable examples

Here’s a free, downloadable example of how you might use these sites to create your own morning routine checklist for your child. This took me less than 5 minutes to create all three examples.
