RYAN’S STORY

Ryan’s experience in the mental health space began in 2006 supporting adults with serious and persistent mental illnesses like schizophrenia and bi-polar disorders. His early work was community focused, one part helping adults access their communities and the other part helping communities become more accessible. Slowly, the focus of his work shifted to supporting the parents of children with disruptive behavior and conduct disorders. Around this time, he also volunteered in group homes that supported adults with complex needs and through this volunteer work began interfacing with a few BCBAs. Ryan noticed the contrast in quality of services between these two groups and set out to become a BCBA. Fueled by his desire to bring data-driven clinical services to overlooked populations, Ryan’s work with autistic children and adults didn’t take off until later in his career.

AUTISM SERVICES

Ryan’s early training taught him the benefits of data-driven decision making in clinical services, which drove his passion for applied behavior analysis. Upon graduation, Ryan quickly realized ABA was known to the larger world as “the autism therapy” and was forced into the autism service industry. Ryan shifted his work to public schools, which allowed him to practice ABA with a broader scope and quickly developed a passion for students with ADHD.

ADHD DIAGNOSIS

Many years later, Ryan made the connection between the challenges his students faced and the challenges he faced himself. At age 38, Ryan was diagnosed with ADHD. With that diagnosis, his passion (or hyperfocus) for practicing ABA outside of the autism service industry ignited. Ryan founded ABHP in 2024 with the hope of bringing the strengths of ABA — a type of behavioral therapy — to families impacted by ADHD.
